This past weekend I was working out of town, while coming home I passed through the town of Abilene. I was just going to make it a quick trip, until I realized something very unique going on. On either side of the road, were huge white sheets, they read "Welcome Home, Soldier."
The further down this main street, about every third lawn, was another. There were American flags everywhere, "We Missed You" signs, "God Bless America" signs and more personal signs as "Little-League Wrestlers Missed You, Sgt." I was so impressed, I thought this was so cool, the thought that was put into this, the community coming together for one troop, brought goosebumps to my arms.
However, I was thinking about how "unique" this was to see. It shouldn't be. This should be things we see everyday. For every soldier. Don't get me wrong, I was very appreciative of the gratitude they showed someone fighting for my freedom, I just wished it could have been a "Awesome! Another soldier is coming home" feeling rather than a "Wow! This is so special!" feeling.
And we wonder why some veterans never get jobs, leave the house, or even continue to live.
Props to the town of Abilene, and thank you to that Sgt. that returned home to Kansas.
I challenge you to show your patriotism and gratitude towards our troops today.
